I ended up having to have a surprise surgery on Monday morning. Some background: I've had heartburn/acid reflux problems pretty much my whole life. It got BAD during my pregnancy and even worse afterwards. I would get bouts of it that would last 6-7 hours to where I couldn't sit, lay down, walk, bend over, or breathe. It landed me in the ER twice in the past month. I was soooo embarrassed about having to go to the ER for heartburn but it was just so bad. This past saturday night I woke up at around midnight with chest pain, again. I got up and took some Maaloxx, Rolaids, and Prilosec but continued to hurt until around 6 that morning. Finally I couldn't take it anymore and called my mom. She convinced me that this was NOT heartburn and I needed to go to the ER and basically demand that they do an ultrasound to check my gall bladder. So we packed up baby, Mitch called in to work, and off to the ER we went. I got a good doctor this time and he sent me to have an ultrasound done. It was soo painful and took FOREVER. But when it was done, it didn't take him very long to come back and say "DEFINITE gall stones." So, he called the surgeon to see if he could take it out that day (AH! scary) but he couldn't do it so we scheduled it for the next morning. He offered to let me stay in the hospital overnight but I wanted to be home with my baby girl. So, my mom and sister came up and spent the night that night. They took care of Maddy so Mitch and I could sleep before the big day.
Monday morning I had to be at pre-op for 7am. My mom, Mitch, and I went while my sister sat with Maddy. I had to wait FOREVER in the waiting room because I was an add-on, so they didn't actually take me back to pre-op until about 11:30. That really sucked. But once I got back there it went really quick. They started my IV, asked me a million questions, I met the surgeon, and then they gave me some meds and I was OUT. Next thing I know, I was waking up in the recovery room. The first thing I remember is asking for my baby, and my nose and face was itching horribly from the morphine. I remember asking how long I had been in there and the nurse said about 20 minutes. My chest and back were hurting pretty badly so I asked for more pain meds. Then I was out again. When I woke up I was in my room. My chest and back were still really hurting, because apparently they pump you up with carbon dioxide so they can work inside there, so you get what feels like really bad gas pains. Anyway, I just have 4 small incisions because they took out the gall bladder laproscopically. I ended up going home around 7pm that evening. My mom and sister went home and Mitch's mom came up and spent the night and took care of Maddy so we could get some rest. Today I have just been resting and taking my pain meds. I was able to get up a few times and even get a shower so I think I am recovering pretty well. I just really hope that all my "heartburn" troubles are gone now!! I can't believe all this time it was really my gall bladder, and something could have been done about it!
Well I should get back in bed now, but I just wanted to update everyone on the situation and let everyone know that I'm okay! Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers!!!
